Local Lockdown Heroes – We Want to Hear from YOU

Are you, or do you know, someone in the Stowmarket area who has risen to the challenge of lockdown and gone that extra mile to do something special to help our community ride out the storm of Covid-19?  If you, or they, have helped an elderly or vulnerable neighbour by doing their shopping, rung them to check they are OK, walked their dog, baked cakes or maybe contributed to the enormous efforts to support the NHS by making or delivering PPE equipment or food, then Stowmarket Lions want to hear from you.

In recognition of these or, indeed, any other of the tremendous, selfless examples of community spirit, Stowmarket Lions will be hosting an Awards Evening to recognise and celebrate those individuals who have gone out of their way to help others in these extraordinary times.  Special awards will be made recognising outstanding effort by those in the age groups 13 and under, 14 to 18 and 18 to 30.

So, don’t hide your light under a bushel but let us know what you’ve been doing or nominate someone you think deserves recognition by contacting Andrew Bingham on 07894 551670 or by e-mail to hero2020@stowlions.org.uk before Saturday 12th September and join us in the celebrations.

Brainy Dogs

On Thursday 20th February Lions Welcomed Sophie Wellumayes and her dog Hope from the Headway Charity.  Sophie spoke enthusiastically about the work of the charity in prisons, with the probation service and with residents in care homes where Hope and the other dogs from the charity are central to the therapy needs of their clients.  Hope treated us to a display of remarkable obedience that was the envy of many of the dog-owners watching, focusing completely on Sophie, undistracted by what was going on around her.  Jonathan Pearce spoke for everyone when he commented on the remarkable work of the charity and thanked her for an evening that was both enjoyable and informative.
