Lion Ride Participant Disclaimer and Acknowledgement
Event status. The Lion Ride is a voluntary fundraising and social ride organised in support of Stowmarket and District Lions Club charitable causes. The ride is not a race, rally, speed trial, competition, escorted convoy, or formally marshalled road event. Any route information provided is offered as suggested guidance only, and each participant remains responsible for deciding whether, when, and how to ride.
Participant responsibility. By taking part, each rider confirms that they participate voluntarily, at their own risk, and in accordance with all applicable road traffic laws, the Highway Code, speed limits, local restrictions, and police or highway authority directions. Each rider must hold a valid and appropriate driving licence, have valid motor insurance for the vehicle and use intended, and ensure that their vehicle is taxed, MOT-certified where required, roadworthy, safe, and suitable for the journey before setting off.
Risk acknowledgement and limitation of liability. Motorcycling and road riding involve inherent risks, including collision, injury, illness, death, damage to property, mechanical failure, adverse weather, poor road conditions, and the actions or omissions of other road users. To the fullest extent permitted by the laws of England and Wales, Stowmarket and District Lions Club, its members, officers, volunteers, organisers, sponsors, and supporters shall not be responsible for loss, damage, injury, costs, claims, or expenses arising from a participant’s decision to take part, route choice, riding conduct, vehicle condition, or failure to comply with legal or safety requirements. Nothing in this disclaimer excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Safety, route, and changes. Participants must ride responsibly, maintain safe distances, wear appropriate protective clothing, avoid competitive or group-pressure riding, and take account of weather, traffic, road surface, visibility, fatigue, personal ability, and passenger safety. The organisers may amend, postpone, or cancel the ride, suggested route, start arrangements, or any related activity where they consider it appropriate for safety, operational, legal, or charitable reasons.
No assumption of supervision. Participants acknowledge that the organisers are not responsible for supervising individual riding standards, checking licences, insurance, MOT status, roadworthiness, medical fitness, or legal compliance. Riders remain personally responsible for their own decisions and for any passenger, pillion rider, or guest they bring to the event.
Participant acknowledgement. By attending or taking part in the Lion Ride, each participant confirms that they have read, understood, and accepted this disclaimer; that they are fit and competent to participate; and that they will act lawfully, safely, and courteously throughout the event.
