SARS – are amazing
Dr Andy Mason spent 40 years attending serious accidents and emergencies as a Suffolk Accident and Rescue (SARS) Doctor.
Dr Andy Mason’s achievements include:
- British Association for Immediate Care (BASICS) National Photographic Award (4 times)
- Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal (for services to Suffolk Accident Rescue Service) (2002)
- BASICS Award (for services to Immediate Care medicine) (2004)
- Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer’s Certificate of Merit (2007)
- Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (for services to Suffolk Accident Rescue Service) (2012)
- BASICS Åsmund S Lærdal Award (for outstanding services to Immediate Care) (2012)
- Suffolk High Sherriff’s Awards: Suffolk Volunteer of the Year – Runner-up (2013)
- Suffolk High Sherriff’s Lifetime Achievement Award 2013-14 – Winner (2014)
- East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) Chief Officer Commendation (2014)
- The Stars of Suffolk Awards 2014: Unsung Hero – Winner (2014)
Now that Andy is retired, music is his main interest and he sings bass/baritone parts with a secular choir in Bury called VOCA. He has also written a number of new hymns with a friend called Lee Merritt (seehttps://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/news/suffolk-student-writes-hymn-inspired-by-st-mary-s-church-in-ufford-1-4291439).
The hymns are all up on his MuseScore website, but his favourite is probably the one he wrote for youth choirs at https://musescore.com/user/6298416/scores/3932446 .
