Santa at Stowmarket Lights Switch-On

23rd November 201913th December 2019

Santa made his first visit of the festive season to Stowmarket for the Lights Switch-On on Friday night and soon had a crowd of eager young, and not so young, admirers.  His next visit will be to Combs Ford for their Lights Switch-On on Wednesday 27th. See times for other visits here

Wine Tasting Evening

23rd November 2019

On Thursday 21st November Lions gathered for an evening of wine tasting at Stowmarket Gold Club.

Hosted by sommelier David Hammond, Lions were asked to blind taste 8 wines and determine the country of origin, grape variety, ABV and price.  Joviality increased as the night progressed but, after some enthusiastic tasting, 2 Lions managed a score of over 50%!  After an exciting tie-break Colin Denton was declared the winner and took away a fine bottle of Spanish Rioja.

Keeping it Local

16th November 201916th November 2019

Stowmarket and District Lions this week made a presentation to a Stowmarket lady to assist her support of the Sepsis Trust.  After her husband tragically passed away due to sepsis, Jean Collins has been tirelessly fundraising for the Trust by, amongst other things, baking cakes.  David Thomas, Chair of Community Services at the Lions Club presented her with a cheque for £150.

The Lions Club also continued its support of Jampot Community Care with a donation of £400 to help fund the Christmas Day lunch which is held at the United Reform Church in the town. The cheque was received by Michelle, one of the founders of this brilliant charity which provides an opportunity for people of all ages to meet for a chat. The group meets at the United Reform Church on a Monday morning between 1000 and 1215 and anybody is welcome to drop in to find out more.
